With the compromise farm bill removing hemp from a list of banned substances, and the expectation that industrial hemp legislation will be brought up during the 2019 General Assembly, Indiana Farm Bureau's "Industrial Hemp's Potential as an Indiana Crop" breakout session at its convention last week could not have been better timed. Two Indiana Farm Bureaus - Benton County and Wayne County - were just honored with national Farm Bureau awards for their novel farm to fork dinners. Benton County's dinner involved (and benefited) the entire community through its support of a local food and service co-op in the historic Fowler Theater. Wayne County invited a wide-range of community influencers to its dinner that featured an open forum where guests could talk to local farmers about how they raise and grow their food. The American Farm Bureau Federation's Community Activities of Excellence (CAE) program annually recognizes unique, volunteer-driven programming at the local level.

The program will include $100 million for affordable high-speed broadband in rural areas, which has been one of Farm Bureau's legislative priorities for several years.
