  • County Farm Bureaus launch new community programs with grants from INFB

    Each year, Indiana Farm Bureau gives development grants to county Farm Bureaus to help them promote agriculture or provide agricultural education in their communities. This year's grant recipients are Pulaski, Starke and Warren County Farm Bureau. Pulaski County Farm Bureau volunteers will use their grant to kick off a program that explores different types of food production. Starke County Farm Bureau's grant will help members plan and promote a new collaborative farm to fork event. Warren County Farm Bureau will use its grant to fund a mobile food pantry to improve food access for local families in need as part of the Warren County Food Insecurity and Food Deserts program.

  • Indiana Farm Bureau donates 50 tons of food for 100th anniversary

    One of the ways Indiana Farm Bureau is celebrating its 100th anniversary is through a statewide charitable giving campaign, "100 Pound for 100 Years," challenging each county Farm Bureau to collect at least 100 pounds of food for Hoosiers in need. The final results totaled 50 tons (100,000 pounds) of food donated to more than 90 charitable organizations.

  • Indiana Farm Bureau celebrates 100th anniversary

    Indiana Farm Bureau celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding at the Statehouse today. INFB President Randy Kron spoke about how members across the state have used their collective voice through the years to protect agriculture's interests. Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch praised Farm Bureau for the advocacy and educational influence it has had on agriculture in the state. She also read a proclamation signed by Governor Eric Holcomb declaring March 25, 2019, Indiana Farm Bureau Day.

  • Indiana Farm Bureau donates 50 tons of food for 100th anniversary

    In celebration of its 100th anniversary, Indiana Farm Bureau and its county Farm Bureaus across the state conducted a "100 Pounds for 100 Years" charitable giving campaign to help Hoosiers in need. Each county was challenged to collect at least 100 pounds worth of food. All told, county Farm Bureaus, INFB and Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance staff, and the Indiana Farm Bureau board of directors donated the equivalent of 50 tons of food to more than 90 local and statewide charities.

  • Rural, farm legislation makes progress in session

    Katrina Hall, director of public policy for Indiana Farm Bureau reports on how legislation affecting farms and rural life are progressing through the Indiana General Assembly. Priority legislation that has advanced thus far includes extraterritorial jurisdiction, dark box property taxes, Kankakee River flood prevention, broadband development, school funding and ag facilities funding.

  • Indiana Farm Bureau hosts FFA Advocacy Day

    More than 40 Indiana FFA students participated in Indiana Farm Bureau's first-ever FFA Advocacy Day on March 11. After a briefing on Farm Bureau members' agriculture and rural priorities for this legislative session, students had the opportunity to visit with their legislators at the Statehouse to talk about the personal impact of policy decisions such as rural school funding and ag career and tech education funding. INFB's public policy director Katrina Hall was impressed by the students and the day's activities, and hopes to increase the number of participants next year.

  • Outstanding INFB volunteers honored at 2019 Spring Conference

    Indiana Farm Bureau recognized six ag volunteer and professional educators for their dedication to ag education: Theresa Gottbrath, Washington County, Volunteer of the Year; Jane Whitsitt, Dubois County, 25-year Agriculture in the Classroom volunteer; teachers Lauren Searcy, Cascade High School and Kelly Shannon, New Market Elementary School, and volunteers, Debbie Trotter and Carol Graves of Clark County, winners of National Agriculture in the Classroom scholarships to attend the national conference in Little Rock, Arkansas. Wabash and Washington County Farm Bureaus also received ag education and promotion development grants to build upon their local initiatives.

Chism and INFB president Randy Kron talk about the significance of Ag Day as well as the diversity and importance of farming and agribusiness in Indiana and its impact around the world.
