  • Hoosiers See Higher Food Prices Ahead of Fourth of July

    Indiana shoppers will see slightly higher prices than last year as they prepare for their Fourth of July cookout. Indiana Farm Bureau’s annual summer cookout market basket revealed Hoosiers are paying an average of $71.49 for a cookout feeding 10 people this summer, or $7.15 per person – a 5% increase compared to last year.

  • Farm Succession Planning Gets More Manageable with Inaugural Indiana Ag Law Foundation Workshop

    The Indiana Ag Law Foundation (INAgLaw) hosted a new workshop last month focused on helping families work together to begin the farm transition process. The day-long workshop, which was held at Indiana Farm Bureau headquarters, featured sessions designed to generate thoughts and ideas about farm succession planning. Six multi-generational families attended and worked together with legal experts to further the process of their succession planning.

    Hoosiers gathering around the table for Thanksgiving dinner will find slight relief when it comes to purchasing ingredients, but the meal still reflects historically high costs. Indiana Farm Bureau’s annual Thanksgiving market basket survey shows that Hoosier shoppers can expect to spend approximately 2% less at the grocery store compared to 2023.

    The latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report released earlier this afternoon by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) projects record soybean crops for the U.S. and in the Hoosier state at 4.58 billion and 346.8 million bushels, respectively.
