Indiana Agriculture In The Classroom

Many students are disconnected from where their food comes from. Indiana Farm Bureau’s Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) program equips teachers and volunteers with engaging, standards-based lessons so kids understand Indiana agriculture and feel a personal connection with the farmers who feed the world.

AITC is facilitated by Indiana Farm Bureau and coordinated nationwide by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, ensuring trusted, accurate, and nonpartisan agricultural education.

Who is it for?

Indiana schools, teachers, community groups, and nonprofits serving Pre-K–12 learners.

Why AITC?

  • Standards-based, ready-to-teach lessons (most free of charge)
  • Hands-on activities & real-world connections students remember
  • Agriculturally accurate resources that reflect common industry standards and practices

Each year, registered volunteers across Indiana visit classrooms and teach thousands of students through in-class lessons, hands-on activities, educational events, on-farm experiences, and field trips.

Volunteers

Thank you for sharing the story of agriculture with students through standards-based lessons and hands-on activities.

Before getting started as an Ag in the Classroom volunteer, INFB members must complete a simple orientation, participate in a workshop and sign a code of conduct form. Then, after an Ag in the Classroom lesson, we appreciate you submitting a simple presentation report.

There is no set time commitment or level of education and experience required. You may work with schools and/or youth organizations (e.g., Scouts, 4-H Clubs, etc.) in your community. You also may be asked to facilitate hands-on activities on agricultural topics that fit your knowledge base.
