Senate Enrolled Act 28 went into effect July 1, and it establishes a reporting and investigation process managed by the
Indiana Department of Natural Resources when a “significant water withdrawal facility” (SWWF) experiences water loss.
If your groundwater well has the capacity to pump 100,000 gallons per day or more, it is considered an SWWF. All SWWFs must be must be registered with DNR and users must report annual estimated use. While this registration and reporting requirement is not new, users must be in compliance to be eligible for the protections.
INFB urges members to ensure their well is registered with DNR in order to receive these new protections. If you have any questions, contact Caitlin Smith, caitlin.caitlin.smith@infb.org.org.
