Nearly 1,500 people completed Indiana Farm Bureau’s 2024 Spring Issues Survey, which was emailed to voting members on Jan. 18.
Some of the findings include:
- 50% of respondents expressed concern about the availability of water resources in their community. However, only 45% believed that the state should play a role in permitting groundwater usage or withdrawal.
- 58% of respondents want some type of permitting at the local, state or federal level for carbon sequestration.
- 54% disagreed or strongly disagreed with increasing the state fuel tax to offset the lost purchasing power of road funding due to inflation.
- When asked about eliminating the income tax, two-thirds of the respondents were against more fees and expanding the sales tax. Furthermore, 91% of the respondents were against reducing state support for local schools, as that could lead to higher property taxes.
- When asked about their satisfaction with the level of taxes and their ability to pay them, 62% of respondents were either somewhat or extremely dissatisfied with local property taxes. Additionally, 49% of respondents were either somewhat or extremely dissatisfied with local property tax referendums. Lastly, 46% of respondents were either somewhat or extremely dissatisfied with fuel taxes.
