Spring survey demonstrates that members are concerned about water, carbon and taxes

Mar 27, 2024, 11:38 AM by INFB Marketing Team

Nearly 1,500 people completed Indiana Farm Bureau’s 2024 Spring Issues Survey, which was emailed to voting members on Jan. 18.

Some of the findings include:

  • 50% of respondents expressed concern about the availability of water resources in their community. However, only 45% believed that the state should play a role in permitting groundwater usage or withdrawal.
  • 58% of respondents want some type of permitting at the local, state or federal level for carbon sequestration.
  • 54% disagreed or strongly disagreed with increasing the state fuel tax to offset the lost purchasing power of road funding due to inflation.
  • When asked about eliminating the income tax, two-thirds of the respondents were against more fees and expanding the sales tax. Furthermore, 91% of the respondents were against reducing state support for local schools, as that could lead to higher property taxes.
  • When asked about their satisfaction with the level of taxes and their ability to pay them, 62% of respondents were either somewhat or extremely dissatisfied with local property taxes. Additionally, 49% of respondents were either somewhat or extremely dissatisfied with local property tax referendums. Lastly, 46% of respondents were either somewhat or extremely dissatisfied with fuel taxes.
More survey analysis will be available in the near future. For specific questions, comments or concerns, email the INFB public policy team at ppt@infb.org.
