Terry Hayhurst of Terre Haute was elected this fall as Indiana Farm Bureau District 7 director and officially took office at the close of the 2020 state convention.
As district director, Hayhurst represents members in Clay, Daviess, Greene, Knox, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Owen, Sullivan and Vigo counties on INFB’s board of directors. He replaces Jeff Gormong, who retired after serving 12 years.
Hayhurst has been active in INFB for 35 years and has served Vigo County Farm Bureau as vice president and president. He and his wife, Susan, were District 7 representatives on the State Young Farmer Committee, and he has served on other INFB committees, including the ELECT state committee.
He is the third generation on his southern Vigo County farm, where he grows corn, soybeans, wheat and hay and has a 30-head registered Polled Hereford cattle operation. He and Susan have two grown daughters and one grandchild.
“I bleed black and gold for Purdue,” said Hayhurst, who has a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Purdue University and is an alumnus of the Indiana Agriculture Leadership Program (class 3).
Hayhurst also is a member of the Vigo County Fair Board, Purdue’s Farm Policy Study Group and the Indiana Hereford Association board of directors, and he’s the association’s state fair breed manager.
“Serving as INFB’s District 7 director appealed to me because I love serving in leadership positions in ag organizations and being a voice for agriculture, especially lobbying. Servant leadership is so important in any organization and I hope to be a positive voice both on and off the board,” Hayhurst said.
“I also look forward to learning about the insurance company and helping make wise and discerning decisions on our members’ behalf,” he added.
