Farmers urged to get involved in this and future election seasons

Jul 27, 2022, 10:48 AM by Kathleen M. Dutro

Engaging in the election process and demonstrating that engagement to candidates is important for all citizens, but it’s particularly important for farmers, who represent less than 2% of the population.

Indiana Farm Bureau is offering a couple of ways for members to get involved:

  • The iFarmiVote initiative. Primarily a social media campaign, iFarmiVote consists of distinctive yard signs, and members shoot a photo of themselves with their sign and then share that photo on social media.

Sale of the signs will kick off on Aug. 27 at INFB’s annual delegate session. You can get more information by contacting your regional manager.

  • Candidate surfacing meetings. This series of meetings is being organized on a regional basis, and they are intended to help members learn how to evaluate local officials – elected or appointed – to see if they are performing the duties of their office well and representing members’ views and policy positions. “We want our members to think about this election but also future elections,” said Katrina Hall, senior director of policy strategy and advocacy.

Some of the meetings have been tentatively scheduled for August and September. For more information, contact your regional manager.

“It isn’t just about what happens in the farm field,” Hall added. “It’s about rural communities – about creating the kind of place people want to stay in or come back to.”

Contact information for all INFB’s regional managers can be found at www.infb.org/about/staff/field-operations.
