AFBF board approves 2022 strategic issues action plan

Mar 2, 2022, 08:26 AM by Kathleen M. Dutro, INFB Marketing Team

The American Farm Bureau Federation board of directors has adopted a strategic issues action plan for 2022 that emphasizes trade, agricultural labor, infrastructure, farm policy and the supply chain.

AFBF noted that the organization will work on all issues covered by AFBF policy as they arise, but issues that are part of the plan are targeted for intensive advocacy planning and monitoring, grassroots support and engagement, and increased awareness of issues important to agriculture.

For agricultural labor, the organizational goals are to achieve meaningful legislation that helps farmers and ranchers meet their labor needs and to update H-2A rules to enhance farmers’ ability to hire the workers they need.

Under infrastructure, one of the priorities is to increase resources to expand rural access to reliable, high-speed broadband service.

The 2023 farm bill also is among the priorities, and specific tactics including surfacing proposals for inclusion in the next farm bill as well as setting the stage for bipartisan farm bill discussions.

The availability of agricultural inputs also is a concern, with high priority given to ensuring that farmers have access to agricultural inputs through proactive trade policies and science-based environmental assessments of chemical registrations.
