Ten YF&AP members advance to next round of discussion meet

Oct 1, 2021, 09:53 AM by Cheyenne Dunn, INFB Marketing Team

Ten young farmers and agricultural professionals will compete in the next round of the Indiana Farm Bureau Discussion Meet at this year’s state convention:

  • Jessica Baggerman, Huntington County.
  • Lyle Burkhalter, Clinton County.
  • Justin Johnson, Whitley County.
  • Brock Kiesler, Floyd County.
  • Abrams Maxwell, Porter County.
  • Cody Pate, Posey County.
  • Elizabeth Pfaff, Henry County.
  • Kyla Schroeder, Perry County.
  • Joseph Tempel, Spencer County.
  • Kylie Wagoner, Tippecanoe County.

The top 10 were chosen during the first two rounds of the discussion meet, which took place virtually on Aug. 21. During round one, participants were asked to discuss what farmers, ranchers and Farm Bureau can do to promote good mental health in themselves and their communities. In the second round, they discussed how Farm Bureau can help farmers and ranchers increase their efficiency in the use of valuable resources and transition to “green energy” practices on their farm or ranch.

These members will compete again at INFB’s state convention on Friday, Dec. 10, in French Lick, Indiana, where the final four and overall winner will be chosen.

The four state finalists will receive plaques and recognition during the state convention awards program, and the top three finalists will receive a $1,000 cash prize from Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance. The overall winner will receive a $4,000 cash prize from Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance and an all-expenses-paid trip to compete in the discussion meet at the American Farm Bureau Federation annual convention in Atlanta, Georgia, in January (pending COVID-19 restrictions).
