ELECT and AgELECT endorsement process helps build member engagement

Oct 8, 2020, 16:02 PM by Brady Hagerty, INFB Marketing Team

Every two years, Indiana Farm Bureau makes a concerted effort to enhance its political influence by endorsing candidates running for political office in the state-level primary and general elections. INFB is able to support candidates through its two political action committees, INFB ELECT and AgELECT – the organization’s federal and state-level PACs.

Farm Bureau’s political action committees have three distinct goals: member involvement, policy implementation and member clout and influence.

These three goals are the foundation of INFB’s focus on grassroots. Enhancing member involvement through political education and local decision-making helps elect candidates whose policy priorities positively impact the agriculture industry.

By supporting ag-friendly candidates, INFB increases its political clout and influence through relationships with elected officials.

“ELECT and AgELECT reward and provide recognition to individuals who support ag and rural Indiana,” said Katrina Hall, INFB’s senior director of policy engagement and advocacy. “Endorsements have allowed INFB to build relationships with elected leaders to ensure the voices of farmers, ag professionals and others in rural communities are represented at the Statehouse and in Congress.

“INFB’s political action committees are a testament to our members’ consistent engagement with their local legislators and to the success of many of the organization’s policy initiatives throughout the years. From property tax reform and right-to-farm protections to our most recent accomplishment, the ability for INFB to offer affordable health benefits to members,” added Hall.

For the 2020 general election, INFB has endorsed 93 candidates. To learn more about INFB’s PACs or to donate, visit the political action section of INFB’s website.

The 2020 general election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
