2020 National Farm Safety and Health Week

Sep 2, 2020, 08:56 AM by Shelby Shank, INFB Marketing Intern

Fall harvest is fast approaching and before you know it, farm equipment will be on the roads in rural areas. It’s not too late for county Farm Bureaus to begin thinking about how they’re going to educate their communities on the importance of practicing farm safety and health.

The third week of September has been recognized as National Farm Safety and Health Week. This program was created by the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety to educate others on the importance of health and safety in agriculture. This year’s National Farm Safety and Health Week will take place Sept. 20-26 with the theme “Every Farmer Counts.”

Along with the theme for the week, daily topics of focus are:

  • Monday – Tractor safety and rural roadway safety.
  • Tuesday – Overall farmer health.
  • Wednesday – Safety and health for youth in agriculture.
  • Thursday – Emergency preparedness in agriculture.
  • Friday – Safety and health for women in agriculture.

To help county Farm Bureau’s encourage the practice of rural road safety and the well-being of farmers, INFB’s marketing team created the “rural road safety” marketing toolkit and webinar. The toolkit contains template press releases, radio PSAs and print ads for counties to use to educate their communities. County Farm Bureaus should consider utilizing the toolkit prior to the upcoming harvest season. It can be found in the “ Resources” section of INFB’s website by clicking on the “For Volunteers” link (site log-on required).

For more information about INFB’s rural road safety toolkit, email county marketing coordinator Cheyenne Dunn.
