100 Pounds for 100 Years: 40 tons of food grows into 50 tons

In the April issue of The Hoosier Farmer, it was announced that with the help of the county Farm Bureaus, more than 40 tons of food had been donated to those in need in Indiana through INFB’s 100 Pounds for 100 Years campaign. That’s 80,000 pounds.

Since the publication of that article, however, that number has jumped to 50 tons, or 100,000 pounds of donated food. When the INFB board of directors heard the initial results, directors decided to give a monetary donation to cover an additional 20,000 pounds of food.

County Farm Bureaus also have stepped up since the article ran in April. INFB had reported that “nearly every county Farm Bureau” participated in the campaign, but since the story ran, the remaining county Farm Bureaus also were able to make their charitable donations, meaning all 92 counties completed the 100 Pounds for 100 Years challenge.

Posey County Farm Bureau (represented above by Jim Droege, past president) donated 8,438 pounds of food to the Posey County Food Pantries and the Partners in Food program. INFB will present the county with a monetary gift for making the largest donation out of all the county Farm Bureaus in the campaign.
