Faces of Farm Bureau: Shelby Swain, associate policy adviser, state government relations

Jan 30, 2017, 08:00 AM by Jay A. Wood, Marketing Team

Indiana Farm Bureau has promoted Shelby Swain to associate policy adviser, state government relations. She joins Justin Schneider as part of the state lobbying team, and will focus on tax and fiscal issues, with guidance from Katrina Hall.

Portrait of Shelby SwainSwain, who was previously INFB’s associate policy analyst, will continue providing research and economic analysis support to many of the organization’s priority issues.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Purdue in agricultural economics with a focus on quantitative analysis, and is currently finishing her master’s degree in agricultural economics (also at Purdue). The skills and technical expertise gained from that program have strengthened the research capabilities she brings to INFB.

“I am so excited to be part of Farm Bureau and work closely with our members,” she said. “My new role is a perfect fit for my skill set and my passion for agriculture.”

Thus far, Swain has enjoyed gaining more in-depth knowledge of INFB’s state priorities and building the necessary relationships with legislators to implement those priority issues.

Swain added that she looks forward to seeing all of the results that INFB’s farm bill task force will yield in the next few years.
