The combined U.S. and Canadian hog herd for June 2019 was up 3% on the year at 89.470 million head, with a 4% increase in the U.S. to 75.520 million cancelling out a slight decrease for Canada at 13.950 million head.
The USDA and Statistics Canada say the total breeding herd was 1% higher at 7.643 million head and market hogs were up 3% at 81.828 million, with a 3% rise in the pig crop to 81.668 million head and 1% increase in sow farrowed at 7.446 million.
