The Department of Transportation has released its proposed rule
for new hours of service for truckers.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao says the
changes give drivers more flexibility and increases road safety.
The proposed rule includes changes to 30-minute break times, allowing drivers to split off duty time, increasing drive times for adverse conditions and adjustments to short-haul driver rules.
The proposed rule is open for comment for 45 days and is supported
by the Agricultural Retailers Association.
