Drier weather cleared the way for a second and sometimes
third cutting of hay for Tennessee farmers and 69 percent is rated good to
excellent.
According to the USDA’s latest Crop and Weather Report, 77
percent of the soybean crop is rated good to excellent, with 78 percent of the
crop blooming and 54 percent setting pods.
Sixty-eight percent of the cotton crop is rated good to
excellent with 97 percent squaring and 65 percent setting bools.
Eighty-six percent of the corn crop is rated good to
excellent with 97 percent of the corn crop is silking, 79 percent is in the
dough stage and 22 percent is dented.
Sixty-five percent of the tobacco crop is rated good to
excellent with 65 percent of the crop topped.
Early-season moisture is sustaining the crops and helping them
thrive as 84 percent of the topsoil moisture and 86 percent of subsoil moisture
is adequate to surplus.
