The President of the U.S. Dairy Export Council told the Senate Finance Committee USMCA needs to be ratified. Tom Vilsack says, “I have a simple message for the committee. Exports matter to American food and agriculture industry.”
Vilsack says the dairy industry would benefit from changes in the USMCA agreement. “Why? Because it would expand access to a Canadian market that for far too long has been closed. It will in fact increase our market share opportunities in cheese, whey, butter, and other dairy, skim milk powder.”
When asked about if Canada might use language in the new trade agreement to recreate the same disadvantages as the current Canadian Class 6 and 7 pricing, Vilsack says they will keep a wary eye on the quotas.
