A market analyst says strong domestic and global demand for beef has helped support cattle prices in the face of record production.
But, Randy Blach, CEO of CattleFax says an economic slowdown could change that. “A recession could cost us spending and it could have some pretty serious ramifications for us,” he says. “We’re probably getting long overdue for that.”
However, he says the cattle industry continues to shine in other areas. “We’ve got strong exports,’ he says. “And increased market access is very, very important to us as we move down the road.”
And Blach says, the continued spread of African Swine Fever will lead to a global protein shortage – which could eventually add more support to prices.
