Are plant-based proteins really better for the environment? The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says no.
Greenhouse gas emissions from beef cattle production have come under increased fire as competition from plant-based proteins heats up.
But, Sara Place, senior director for sustainability research with NCBA, says just 2 percent of greenhouse gas emissions come from cattle. “So really that is the maximum amount you could reduce emissions from the US beef industry even if all cattle were eliminated,” she says.
