The Missouri
Hemp Association is holding its first ever conference. Executive Director Dale
Ludwig says the interest in growing hemp is huge, You know, I went to some winter
meetings last year, it was interesting. You’d go to a session on weed control
and there’s be 15 people in there. You’d go to a session on marketing and there’d
be 20. You go to a session on hemp and there’d be 300 people at that.”
Ludwig says
hemp is essentially three crops and farmers are looking for new cash markets, “No
question, things are pretty tough in agriculture right now and hemp is like a
partial solution, at least, to increase profitability for farmers.”
Missouri is behind other states, lacking the licensing for hemp, but the chairman of the hemp association says they’re confident the department of ag will have the process in place in time for next year.
