Some heat, humidity & storms across the Heartland

Across the Corn Belt, warm weather favors the growth
of late-planted and developmentally delayed corn and soybeans. Meanwhile,
scattered showers and thunderstorms stretch primarily along a west-to-east axis
from Iowa to Ohio. Despite the recent improvement in Midwestern weather
conditions, U.S. corn and soybeans were experiencing their second-lowest crop
ratings at the end of June in the last quarter century, behind only 2012.
On the Plains, scattered showers and thunderstorms
are maintaining mostly adequate to abundant soil moisture reserves for
rangeland, pastures, and summer crops.
