U.S. corn planting is officially over. It is unknown how many acres this actually represents, with planting historically slow because of wet weather and the USDA saying the weekly crop progress updates include not only area that has actually been planted, but also acres producers were intending to plant. The USDA is resurveying producers in 14 states, with results out in August.
As of Sunday, 94% of the U.S. corn crop has emerged, compared to the five-year average of 100%, with 56% of the crop in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week.
