Michigan joins the growing number of states providing support to dairy farmers. This week the Michigan legislature approved supplementing funding measures that include $1 million in dairy assistance for farmers for this fiscal year. House Ag Committee Chair Julie Alexander of Jackson tells Brownfield all 2019 licensed grade A milk producers will be receiving a onetime payment of more than $800. “It’s not a dollar amount that’s going to save any farm, but it acknowledges the challenges that the farmers face and it took a little bit of time to figure out the best way to appropriate those dollars.” She says the state of the dairy industry and all of agriculture remains a concern for her and fellow law makers.
