Iowa farmers are one step closer to being able to legally grow industrial hemp. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed the Iowa Hemp Act into law his week. It tasks the Iowa Department of Agriculture with developing a state plan to license and regulate the production of hemp. That plan must then be submitted to the USDA for approval, says Iowa ag secretary Mike Naig. “They’ve indicated that they’ll have the rules ready for the program by this fall,” Naig says.
