An agronomy specialist warns
not to mud in this year’s crop during limited planting windows.
“We want to make sure we’re not cultivating our fields and planting when the fields are wet. This is what we call generally call ‘mudding the seed in’ and we want to avoid that.”
Michigan State University Extension’s Manni Singh recommends limiting fieldwork and waiting until field conditions are ideal.
“The data has shown that even mid to end of May planting can still provide us with high yield.”
Singh says farmers don’t need to switch to earlier maturing crops unless planting goes into June.
