African swine fever (ASF), which is decimating China’s hog herd, is also eroding the demand for U.S. soybeans.
“This African swine fever is kind of like piling on when you take into account the trade dispute that we’ve been going through for almost a year now, and then you throw in African swine fever—and you’ve just reduced your demand for soybeans in China by a considerable amount,” says Lindsay Greiner, president of the Iowa Soybean Association.
