The USDA says production of most dairy products during March was lower than last year but up on the month.
Total cheese production was 1.1 billion pounds, down 0.7 percent from last year but 11 percent above February. Both Italian cheese and American cheese were up from last year.
Butter production was down nearly four percent from March and 13 percent from last month.
Nonfat dry milk was down eight percent from 2018 and skim milk powder was up almost 18 percent.
