A new report from USDA finds the nutritional quality of meals served in schools improved significantly following the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.
The report says the Healthy Eating Index between the 2009 to
2010 school year and 2014 to 2015 increased more than 40 percent for school breakfasts
and lunches.
Students were most likely to waste vegetables, milk and
fruits and the least likely to throw out meats and entrees.
School meals were also more expensive than USDA subsidies with the new requirements.
