The head of the National Farmers Union says farmers are
earning less of what consumers spend on food than ever reported.
“We also know that food costs are very low so that makes the economic situation that agriculture is in arguably even worse.”
Roger Johnson tells Brownfield farmers in 2017 received less
than 15 cents for every dollar consumers spent on food, down nearly 20 percent
from 2011.
He says net farm income is half of what it was five years ago
and the latest census shows the middle-sized farms are disappearing.
