A South Dakota wheat grower was close to getting spring wheat planted when
a storm hit.

“About a week ago we had about 24 or 25 inches of snow,” said Shannon DePoy, who
farms in Northwestern South Dakota, “and we’ve had some more showers after
that.”

Shannon tells Brownfield his plans are delayed because of the wet weather.

“We was about geared up to start planting,” said DePoy. “We usually try to
start planting the middle of April, the 15th, so it’s going to be the
end of April or the first part of May for sure.”

On the other hand, late season snow has been good for DePoy’s winter wheat,
which is coming out of dormancy and doing well.
