The USDA says US corn farmers can expect more export competition from South America this year.
World Ag Outlook Board Chair Seth Meyer says USDA increased its estimate for Brazil’s corn crop based on cooperative weather conditions.
“After planting they got rain across a lot of areas of second crop corn so, that crops look good. This month the increase in 1.5 million metric tons to 96 million metric tons of total corn production in Brazil is driven by yields on that second crop corn.”
He says that will make Brazil an even bigger competitor in the export market.
