Midday cash livestock markets

Apr 12, 2019, 13:05 PM by Ann Gregson
Midday cash livestock markets

Direct cash cattle trade is still pretty quiet at midday.  There are some bids on the table at $126 to $127 live and $203 to $204 dressed.  Asking prices are around $128 live and $206 to $207 dressed.  After the light to moderate trade at midweek it’s likely business has wrapped up for the week in the South.  We’re still waiting for significant trade volume in the North – however the inclement weather could also be a factor this week.

Boxed beef opened steady to sharply higher on moderate demand
for heavy offerings.  Choice is $.10 lower
at $228.73 and Select is $1.83 higher at $221.78.

At the Lamoni Feeder Cattle Auction in Iowa, receipts were
up on the week.  The USDA says trade was
active and the demand was good.  Feeder
supply included 47 percent steers and 75 percent of the offering was over 600
pounds.  Medium and Large 1 feeder steers
724 to 748 pounds brought $154 to $158.25 and feeder steers 826 to 843 pounds
brought $138.25 to $143.35.  Medium and Large
1 feeder heifers 657 to 678 pounds brought $139.25 to $144.50 and feeder
heifers 710 to 733 pounds brought $134 to $141.50.

Cash hogs opened steady to higher on fairly light negotiated purchase totals.
