A maple syrup producer says he pulled his last taps this weekend
in Michigan’s Thumb.
Bob Battel with Battel’s Sugar Bush in Tuscola County tells Brownfield
the start of the maple syrup season was pushed back several weeks because of cold
weather.
“The past couple of years we’ve been tapping in February, but this year we didn’t tap until the first weekend of March. It didn’t really get going until a week after that, but it ended up being a very average year.”
The month-long season on the farm’s 750 taps produced more than 170 gallons of syrup.
