Phosphorus Sustainability Challenge urges groups to reduce phosphorus footprint

The Sustainable Phosphorus Alliance has launched an initiative to raise awareness of the role phosphorus plays in global food and water security.

Scholz, program manager with the alliance, says the Phosphorus Sustainability
Challenge provides a platform for organizations to reduce their phosphorus footprint.
“They
make these commitments that are time bound to any area of phosphorus
sustainability that there is,” he says. “This is a really complex problem that
has a lot of different places where sustainably gains can be made.”
Phosphorus
is a critical resource used in crop fertilizers and animal feed, but it’s also
a water pollutant.
