A Wisconsin Congressman urged Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to consider upgrading the USDA plant breeding and genetics facility at the University of Wisconsin. Democrat Mark Pocan told Perdue and the House Appropriations Subcommittee the research facility at the Madison campus is no longer adequate. “The vegetable crop research unit has been working on innovative plant traits with farmers across the world out of that facility however it is really, really seriously outdated and needs to have a new vegetable crop research unit there.”
Secretary Perdue said the Wisconsin facility is not alone.
