At the Chicago
Mercantile Exchange, live cattle futures were mixed in a narrow range on the
lack of direction from the cash trade and lower wholesale values at
midday. Feeder cattle futures ended the
day slightly higher on limited buying interest.
April live cattle closed $.27 higher at $126.52 and June live cattle closed
$.02 higher at $119.62. April feeder
cattle closed $.05 higher at $145.95 and May feeder cattle closed $.15 higher
at $149.67.
Direct cash cattle trade was pretty quiet Thursday following
Wednesday’s business. Trade volumes were
a little on the light side – so we could see some cleanup deals take place Friday. Bids are at $125 to $126 live and $204 dressed
while asking prices for cattle left on showlists are around $127 live and $208
dressed.
At the Sheridan
Livestock Auction in Nebraska, receipts are up on the week and the year. Compared to two weeks ago 600-pound steers
were $5 higher with 700-pound steers $2 lower and 750 pound steers were $8
lower.
