U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at a New Jersey
port stopped a million pounds of Chinese pork products from entering the U.S. A
Bloomberg report calls it the biggest agricultural products seizure in American
history. The smuggling attempt comes as China, the world’s largest
pork-producing country, deals with African swine fever infecting its hog herds.
More than 100 Customs agriculture specialists and K-9 teams uncovered the
prohibited pork products, concealed in anything from ramen noodle bowls to Tide
detergent.
