The European Commission says U.S. soybeans meet sustainability requirements and can now be used in biofuels in the European Union.
Biofuels in the EU must meet a set of sustainability standards outlined in its Renewable Energy Directive and the European Commission says the U.S. Soybean Sustainability Assurance Protocol meets its requirements.
Bill Gordon, vice president
of the American Soybean Association, says the announcement is a win for soybean
growers.
“This is important for both countries— for us, it increases our exports with the tariff situation we’re in,” he says.
