An extension educator says increasing global demand and Chinese
tariffs are resulting in higher fertilizer prices for the second year.
“The global demand for fertilizer is increasing because countries like China, India, Brazil—they are increasing their per acre fertilizer rates.”
George Silva with Michigan State University Extension tells Brownfield fertilizer costs are expected to increase by about $15 per acre for corn and $5 per acre for soybeans in 2019.
