A coalition of ag and conservation groups is urging Congress to support Great Lakes programs within the 2018 Farm Bill.
Laura Campbell, with the Michigan Farm Bureau, tells Brownfield farm bill programs help farmers implement conservation practices to be better stewards of the environment. “Especially in a bad farm economy, it’s vital that they be able to get the technical assistance as well as the financial assistance to be able to get those things done and still be able to maintain their business.”
She says the coalition brings together nontraditional partners that want to increase funding and see reforms that protect the region’s soil, drinking water and wildlife while promoting a strong farm economy.
