The USDA says cattle placements during December were up on the year, the tenth month in a row with an increase.
Placements were up 1% from the large December 2016 total at 1.799 million and a little bit larger than what some analysts were expecting, but not by much. Most of the monthly total were cattle weighing less than 800 pounds and will be marketed from May through August.
