U.S. milk production increased slightly for December. The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service says 17 billion pounds of milk were produced in the 23 major milk producing states, one percent more than November, and up 1-point-2 percent from a year ago.
Production per cow was 11 pounds above a year ago averaging 1,943 pounds, the highest December per-cow production since record keeping began in 2003.
California has the most dairy cattle with 1.7 million head followed by Wisconsin with 1.3 million head.
