According to NASA, 2017 was second only to 2016. Global temperatures were about 2 degrees warmer than average temperatures between 1951 and 1980.
But, a separate study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says that 2017 was the third-warmest year on record. NASA scientists say the difference stems from the methods the agencies use to determine global temperatures. Despite the differences, both agencies agree that the five warmest years have taken place since 2010.
