The USDA says red meat in cold storage at the end of December was down 6% on the year at 1.023 billion pounds.
Beef supplies dropped 14% to 489.453 million pounds because of good consumer demand, while pork was up 3% at 490.782 million because of comparatively slower demand with record or near record production levels for most of 2017. That pork total includes new monthly highs for boneless hams and total hams.
