Missouri Corn Growers Association members visited state lawmakers Tuesday pushing for passage of a measure to change some wording in the Missouri Clean Water Law. Corn Growers CEO Gary Marshall tells Brownfield Department of Natural Resources Regulations are not in line with the current statute.
“We’re simply trying ensure that we’re following DNR’s rules and guidelines on non-point source water contamination in the state, which most farmers are,” Marshall told Brownfield Ag News at the Missouri State Capitol, “so that farmers don’t have to get a permit every time they want to go plant a field of corn or put a load of fertilizer on.”
The current law says it’s unlawful to place a contaminant in a location where it’s reasonably certain to cause water pollution.
