In his speech this week to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) convention, President Trump offered brief albeit fairly substantial assurances to the 4,500 assembled farmers that he certainly understands the importance of trade to rural economies and individual producer incomes, and that his administration is working hard on their behalf to renegotiate a NAFTA treaty that is “fair and reciprocal.”
However, either he or one of his administration surrogates hit the hustings this week reiterating threats to pull out of NAFTA unless, as the Wall Street Journal reported, Canada and Mexico accept “the Trump deal,” which our nation’s chief executive equates with “fair.”
At the AFBF convention, Trump reminded the audience of his orders to the administration trade team to review all U.S.
