A former accounting manager for the Oklahoma Beef Council has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for embezzling more than two-and-a-half million dollars from the organization.
Melissa Morton, who worked for the beef council for 21 years, had pled guilty to bank fraud and signing a false federal income tax return in connection with the embezzlement. She admitted embezzling the funds from the council from 2009 to 2016.
Morton was also ordered to pay restitution to the council of 2.3 million dollars.
