The race to get a Farm Bill to the president’s desk sooner rather than later moves into a sprint with the coming of the New Year, notwithstanding Congress’ imposing policy agenda of infrastructure, health care, welfare/entitlement reform, etc. The worst jobs in Congress during this mad dash to refashion a so-called “income safety net” for farmers are the chairs of the House and Senate Agriculture Committees because they’re ultimately the lawmakers who must find myriad ways of saying “no” to industry segments with their hands out for greater federal largesse.
