A new USDA report says U.S. wheat growers could lose market share in Japan in the years ahead because of the Free Trade Agreement with Japan and the European Union. It says another factor is the new Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership – forging ahead without U.S. participation. President Trump pulled the U.S. out of the TPP a year ago. Japan remains in the trade agreement.
The leading U.S. wheat groups have written to the US Trade Representative’s office urging it to focus on developing NEW markets instead of renegotiating existing free trade agreements.
